Compassion Sunday, May 1, 2016

Dear Friends,

Sunday is a special day for Christ the Redeemer! Not only do we gather to celebrate the Resurrection (as we do every Sunday, and especially during the Season of Easter), but we also gather to celebrate God’s call to participate in his resurrection-life, his ‘mission’ to re-new all things.

During our worship on Sunday, we will raise up and give thanks for our connection with Compassion Ministries–and especially our personal connections with nearly 45 children (and their families, churches, and communities) in Rwanda. We will hear a testimony from a sponsor, hear a word (via ‘video’) from Compassion itself, and consider God’s call to us personally about our own participation in this life-giving ministry.

Then, following the service, we will gather for lunch in the Fellowship Hall and receive an update on our Sister-to-Sister relationship with Mbyo parish in the Diocese of Kigali, Rwanda. Additionally, we will also hear about our diocese’s involvement with “Walk With Rwanda” project.

These are the major ways God has given to us to be involved in his Kingdom work globally. Be sure to stay for the lunch, and be open to the promptings of the Spirit concerning your own involvement in the mission.

Looking forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.

Week of April 24

Dear Friends,
Here are some of the things you need to know this week:
First, Our Women’s Retreat takes place this weekend (April 22-24) at Camp Chanco on the James River. Thirty-eight women have registered (a record number). Please pray for Jennifer as she speaks at the retreat, for all the other leaders who play essential roles within it, for safe travel for all and for God’s presence to be known and enjoyed in and through it all. (Pray as well for the husbands and fathers who are ‘left behind’–especially the young fathers!).
Second, Our Second Annual Mission Sunday takes place on May 1st.  We will celebrate our connection with Compassion Ministries during the worship service, and then set that connection within our larger, global mission in and with Rwanda during the lunch that follows. Please set this day aside and plan to stay for the lunch and presentation.
Third, Our Vacation Bible School is set for the week of June 27- July 1. We all can help with the preparation by contributing to the “supplies” needed for the sessions. Please see the list posted on the VBS Webpage or on the bulletin board in the hallway next to the Women’s restroom.
Looking forward to worshiping with you on Sunday (in person or in spirit–for those at the retreat!).

Week of April 17

Dear Friends,

Third, we are currently in need of a few more people for the Usher Ministry.  If you feel inclined or if God has put it in your heart to serve in this manner, please contact Clark Garvin at clarkgarvin@cox.net.
Please see the following important message from Monica Fraser regarding Compassion Sunday:
Hello Christ the Redeemer Friends and Members–
Do you have a connection with a restaurant owner, caterer or super awesome friend who cooks, and who would be willing to donate food for this year’s Rwandan Mission dinner on May 1st?  Please let me know!
At the mission luncheon we will be combining our annual Compassion outreach with a presentation on the next stage of our Mbyo School Project.
This past year your generosity helped transform the lives of 45 young children through Compassion and allowed us to fund the construction of a new facility with two school classrooms in Mbyo parish.  You can see and read about that progress on the Mission page of CtR’s website here…
Rwandan School House Project
The CtR family pledged and raised over $15,000 toward the school project last year, and we want to build on the momentum of that success for the good of the children in our sister parish.
So, consider if you have a connection who could partner with us in making the dinner another great success.  Please email me (teddiepup69@yahoo.com) or call me with any ideas or questions you may have at 757-281-8480.
Thanks for your help!
Monica
