Week of July 29, 2018

Just a few, but important, items for this week:

Move-In Help

David Watts, our soon-to-be Assistant to the Rector, arrives Monday, July 30th to move into his new apartment. If you are able to help, please meet at Hague Towers (330 West Brambleton Avenue, Norfolk) around 2 p.m. Monday to welcome, support him and help him unpack.  There will also be a reception after the service August 5th to welcome him to our community.

Sign-up for Our August Congregational Gathering

Add your name to the sign-up sheets on the flip chart outside the Sanctuary for our Summer special event, which starts in two weeks: “Spiritual Formation Through Family Worship,” August 6th-9th, is open to everyone, regardless of age. Please read the special insert in this week’s bulletin, take it home for your ‘fridge or calendar, reserve the dates and plan to participate in this exciting opportunity.

Gap-Year Opportunity

The ACNA is offering a “gap year” program for high school graduates. Participants will live in community in Pittsburgh, PA five months while receiving in-depth discipleship training and hands-on ministry experience. They will then serve with one of ACNA’s overseas partners for 4-6 weeks in Thailand, in the mountains of Chiang Mai. The year ends by traveling to churches throughout the US to share the story of God’s work, witness how ACNA churches are engaged in their communities, and encourage their participation in His kingdom. For more information go to the ACNA site.

Intercessory Prayer Meeting

There will be no Intercessory Prayer on Wednesdays in July and August. If you are interested in participating in this vital ministry please let Brian know the best time and day you can meet, so he can plan a time in the Autumn which is good for all those interested.

Name Badges

As our congregation grows, it is good to wear our name badges on Sundays as a way to welcome newcomers and get to know each other. If you do not see your name on a badge in the baskets, please contact Anne Reed Harper, or Amy at the CtR office, and one will be made for you.

New Assistant Update

Our new Assistant to the Rector, Rev. David Watts, has found a place to live and will be moving to Tidewater July 30th to begin his work with us August 1st. Thanks to the generosity of a number of CtR members, we have been pledged all the furniture for his office; Thank you!

Week of July 8, 2018

A few needs and upcoming gatherings which you should be aware of:

Furniture Needs

As we prepare to welcome David Watts into the CtR family and outfit his new office, if you have an office desk or book shelves you are willing to donate, please let Amy or Brian know as soon as possible. Thank you!

Men’s Meeting

The men of CtR will meet this coming Tuesday, July 10th from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the home of Steven Dickens (3215 Omohundro Avenue, Norfolk). An Evite was sent out, but if you have further questions, contact Zach Kuenzli.

Tides Baseball Game

If you plan to attend the Tides Baseball game August 15th, but have not yet let Steven Dickens know, do so as soon as possible, because he must give the Tides a final count this week.

August Congregational Gathering

This year, instead of a week of Vacation Bible School, the entire church family (and visitors!) are invited to attend, “Spiritual Formation Through Family Worship,” from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. August 6-9, 2018. This should prove to be a great way to encourage home worship time, as well as build inter-generational relationships, to strengthen our church body, and help us all connect what happens on Sunday mornings to our life at home during the week.

The sessions will be arranged around our existing small groups, so if you are not part of one of these, please contact Jennifer Brown and she will see you are added to a group. Each group will meet at the church either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening, then we will gather as one group for Thursday evening’s culmination. A meal will be provided Monday-Wednesday and Thursday will be a covered dish dinner.

     The groups are as follows:

Monday Night, August 6th: Harper, Brown/Branch and Women’s Groups

Tuesday Night, August 7th: Reed and Reyes Groups

Wednesday Night, August 8th: Watkins, Gyorfi and Fraser Groups

If you have any questions, contact Jennifer Brown.

Name Badges

If you do not have a name badge to wear on Sundays, please check the counter top in the Fellowship Hall (underneath the large map of Rwanda) to see if one has been made for you. Then choose the holder you would like. As we grow, it is good to wear our name badges on Sundays as a way to welcome new comers and get to know each other. If you have any questions, or do not see your name badge on the counter, please contact Anne Reed Harper, or email Amy at the CtR office.

Looking forward to worshiping with you this week
